What is Lipscomb Online?
Lipscomb Online is a part of Lipscomb University that was created to focus on the unique needs of students with families and/or careers. Most of our classes are entirely online so that students can have the flexibility they need in order to work, care for family members, and have a full life while they are going to college. Even though we are called “online,” many of our courses have a synchronous or low residency component. However, all are designed with the busy professional in mind and are not available to residential students. All of the programs are designed to help students advance in their careers.
Competency-Based Education
A hallmark of the programs at Lipscomb Online is Competency-Based Education (CBE). All of Lipscomb Online’s courses, whether they are in graduate or SetPACE 8-week terms or FlexPACE 4-month subscription periods, are built around specific competencies that students are expected to demonstrate. Competencies are knowledge, skills, attitudes and habits of mind that are necessary to do a job. Some competencies are demonstrated through research, mathematical calculations, creative projects, or project-based solutions to issues. Others are demonstrated through direct observation as the student performs in a simulation or other human interaction.
Who may participate in Lipscomb Online?
Lipscomb Online is for students of every age and background, but the emphasis is on students who are working full time or who may be caring for a family. Students who are currently taking traditional Lipscomb classes may not take Lipscomb Online classes during the same term.
