CMU 2043 - Songwriting I (3) F

A course focused on bringing songwriting into a critique environment. Students write songs on their own and/or in co-write sessions, then perform them and receive feedback from the professor in class. Basic techniques of craft in harmony, melody, rhythm, form, and lyric are discussed, and students experiment with those techniques in various writing exercises. Minimum grade of “C” required to move forward into CMU 2053 (Songwriting II).

Prerequisites: CMU 2003 or submission of 2 songwriting samples, AND MU 1133 and MU 1111
