PERF 5503 - Pediatric Perfusion (3)

This course prepares students for participation in pediatric perfusion care by providing an in-depth study of the cardiac congenital defects, the surgical procedures used to palliate and/or correct each defect, with a general overview of pediatric perfusion technologies and techniques. Emphasis is placed on the physiological differences between the adult and pediatric patient populations, device selection, volume management, cannulation techniques, thermal manipulations to include deep hypothermic circulatory arrest, and cerebral protection.
