CEA 6023 - Creative Industry Ecosystems (3)
This course examines the creative industries as interconnected ecosystems shaped by culture, technology, economics, and leadership. Drawing from film and television, music, fashion, and nonprofit arts organizations, students explore how creative work is developed, financed, distributed, and sustained across complex networks of creators, institutions, platforms, funders, audiences, and policy environments.
Through industry-specific instructional modules, students analyze how value flows through creative ecosystems-from intellectual property creation and talent development to distribution, monetization, community engagement, and long-term sustainability. The course emphasizes systems thinking, cross-sector comparison, and applied frameworks to help students understand both the shared dynamics and unique challenges facing commercial and nonprofit creative enterprises.
Topics include evolving distribution models, branding and audience development, funding and revenue structures, governance and partnerships, rights management and deal structures, and the growing impact of digital platforms and artificial intelligence. By the end of the course, students will be equipped to lead, manage, and collaborate within creative ecosystems while making informed strategic decisions in environments defined by rapid change and interdependence.
