BY 2114 - Cell Biology (4) F, SP This course is designed to provide an in-depth working knowledge of topics in cell biology with a molecular approach. Topics include molecular structure and function of proteins, DNA and RNA with understanding of gene control and expression. Aspects of transcription, translation, protein transport, protein regulation, gene regulation, apoptosis and cell signal transduction will also be covered. Basic molecular biology laboratory techniques and experiments design will be covered in laboratory experiences. Students will learn to analyze protein and DNA samples through gel electrophoresis, isolation techniques, quantitation techniques, gene expression models and plasmid biology.
Prerequisite: BY 1134 with a minimum grade of “C” and sophomore standing (minimum 30 hours in progress or completed at time of enrollment). Lecture, 3 hours; laboratory, 2 hours.
