AC 3553 - Accounting Information Systems (3) SP


This experiential course offers a comprehensive introduction to accounting information systems and their integration with data analytics applications in the field of accounting.  Through a series of engaging mini-cases and comprehensive projects, students will explore how accounting information is recorded, processed, and reported within an accounting information system framework.  Students will cultivate an analytics mindset as they apply data analytics techniques to accounting-specific datasets.  Emphasizing critical thinking and problem-solving skills, the course enables students to tackle real-world accounting challenges.  Using appropriate data analytics software, participants will engage with descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics, culminating in the creation of impactful visualizations and data presentations to inform and enhance accounting decisions.  By the end of the course, students will not only understand the mechanics of accounting information systems but also gain the analytical skills necessary to derive insights and make data-driven decisions in the accounting profession.
