Michelle Steele, Associate Dean of Academics and Director
The Department of Urban Studies offers an undergraduate major and minor academic program in the interdisciplinary study of cities and urban contexts, which draws on fields including sociology, history, geography, urban planning, political science, sustainability, and data science. The program deeply immerses students in the real-world issues facing our increasingly urban world population. Using Nashville as our primary classroom, students have the opportunity to grow skilled in research, writing, and data analysis. The major also encourages students to deeply explore the ways their beliefs intersect with the challenges of urban life. The academic program’s mission is to provide an integrated, multidisciplinary learning in the context of ethics and Judeo-Christian values.
