Literacy is the foundation of all learning. A student who can read confidently, comprehend deeply, and write clearly opens doors to worlds of discovery in science, math, literature, and history. Candidates in the Literacy Master’s Program at Lipscomb University, will learn how to use research-based practices to positively impact the lives of learners of all ages. The core strength of the Literacy Master’s at Lipscomb is a comprehensive approach to literacy where candidates will focus on the most current research in the field and in-depth study of literacy development and strategies to support academic success for all learners. The curriculum includes a variety of literacy topics such as foundational knowledge, developmental continuums, assessment, writing, multi-language learners and specific strategies for supporting all learners. All courses in the literacy program at Lipscomb will develop leadership competencies so that candidates are confidently prepared to be leaders in the field. Graduates of the Literacy Master’s will be prepared to add on the reading specialist endorsement and the ELL endorsement to their current teaching licence which will allow them to become expert classroom teachers, literacy coaches, ELL instructors, curriculum specialists and leaders in the field.
