Certificate of Graduate Studies in English Language Learning

Candidates who would like to seek additional certification in English Language Learning may enroll in the 12-hour graduate-level track in ELL. The certification will allow participants to transfer their existing knowledge and experience into the field of teaching a second language. The program will examine second language acquisition theories, appropriate methods and materials, issues in multicultural learning communities and effective educative assessment strategies/instruments for English language learners. Candidates with an active TN teaching license will be eligible to add the endorsement to their license once the appropriate Praxis exam has been passed. For candidates who wish to use this certificate as part of a Stackable M.Ed. degree, a fifth course is required.
The program adheres to similar admission standards and procedures and academic policies of the graduate studies in the College of Education.
