Candidates with an undergraduate degree may pursue Tennessee teacher licensure through the Teacher Licensure program. The program will provide the coursework and skill development that new educators need.

Participants in the Teacher Licensure Program are classified as certificate, and all licensure requirements must be fulfilled in order to complete the program. The program adheres to similar admission standards and procedures and academic policies of the Graduate Studies in the College of Education.

All candidates seeking a Tennessee teaching licensure will take the following required 18 credit hours of course work:

Students will choose ONE of the following methods courses depending on area of certification:

EG 5153 - Methods for Adolescent Learners (3)
EG 5163 - Early Childhood Methods (3)
EG 5173 - Methods in Art Education (3)
EG 5183 - Teaching of English Language Arts (3)

EG 5193 - Teaching of History/Social Sciences (3)
EG 5953 - Methods of Teaching Physical Education (3)

Tennessee licensure requirements include an extended clinical experience. Candidates must take either EG 5417 Enhanced Student Teaching (seven hours) and EG 5402 Student Teaching Seminar (two hours) or Mentoring (four hours minimum) and a non-credit edTPA course (for individuals who are not on job-embedded licenses) in order to complete licensure requirements.
If candidates are completing a job-embedded clinical placement, they will need to enroll in EG 5132 Teacher Mentoring I and EG 5232 Teacher Mentoring II:

Program Orientation & Completion

All degree/certificate-seeking candidates take the following two non-credit, no-charge, pass/fail courses. EG 5000 is taken during their first semester and EG 6000 during the semester in which they complete their program/graduate.
