Lipscomb University’s Traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is a 128-credit-hour program designed to equip and empower nurses to care for patients across the lifespan. Throughout the upper division BSN curriculum, student nurses engage in over 580 contact hours of clinical experiences in a variety of healthcare settings, including but not limited to pediatrics, intensive care, emergency care, mental health, and obstetrics.

Graduates of Lipscomb’s BSN program are prepared to sit for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing - Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN) exam (licensure is required for clinical practice) with the majority of graduates passing on the first attempt (see lipscomb.edu/nursing for statistics).

Completion of a medical terminology (online, non-credit) course is required before entering the upper division curriculum of the Traditional BSN program option.  Course information will be distributed to students by their Academic Success Coach or Academic Advisor.  Transfer credit may be approved upon review by the School of Nursing and University Registrar.

Beginning in Fall 2027, two (2) credit hours will be reallocated from the prerequisite requirements to the upper-division nursing curriculum. These credits, focused on evidence-based practice and aligned with evolving programmatic needs, will be completed as upper-division, nursing-specific coursework. The total number of credit hours required for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree will remain 128.
Prior to Fall 2027, students must complete two (2) elective credit hours of their choice to meet the 128 total credit hours required for graduation. These elective hours are not required to be nursing coursework.
