EG 6423 - Leading with Character (3)


How are virtues, values and ethics intertwined in the professional practice of an educational leader when it comes to the crucial act of decision-making? Character-Based Ethical Decision Making will challenge candidates to explore deeply the concept of leading with character by identifying their own character strengths and areas to strengthen, especially as these virtues relate to their professional practice.  The arena of ethical leadership will be studied in depth. Candidates will investigate the elements of educational decision-making, taking into consideration professional standards and ethics, district mandates, educational policy, prioritization of diversity and equity, and political implications.  Working through ethical dilemmas, focusing on the foundation of character-based leadership, will require candidates to collaboratively participate in the decision-making process and to defend their decisions articulating potential outcomes on both internal and external stakeholders.  Creating their own ethical dilemma, with a core requirement of educational decision-making, will challenge candidates to utilize the BISON Ethical Dilemma Framework Reflection to contemplate intricately on all elements of the dilemma while posing potential outcomes and resolution.
