African American Studies Minor

Return to: College of Liberal Arts & Sciences
Rooted in the religious experiences, cultural traditions and collective achievements of African-descended peoples in the United States, African American Studies is an interdisciplinary minor that cultivates a rich understanding of the diverse perspectives within black culture. Students who complete the African American Studies minor should be able to articulate the artistic, historical, social, political thought and experience of African Americans within the context of American culture more broadly. Due to the particular details of American history and the legacies of slavery, immigration, and racism, the study of race, ethnicity, and other forms of collective identity are central concerns of this minor. The minor is suitable for all Lipscomb University undergraduate students regardless of major and ethnic, cultural or racial background. African American Studies enrich our understanding of American culture.
