PHSC 2623 - Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics II (3) The second of a three course sequence designed to emphasize principles of drug action used to characterize, evaluate and compare drug molecules in the areas of CNS, gastrointestinal, and endocrine/hormone pharmacology. Other topics will include dermatological and ocular pharmacology. Fundamental principles that will be covered in this sequence includes evaluating physical and chemical properties of drug molecules (Medicinal Chemistry) and drug targets (Biochemistry) that regulate drug-receptor interactions, characterizing the type of drug molecules and drug targets that interact with specific cell signaling pathways (Pharmacology), and understanding pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic principles (Clinical Pharmacology) that alter drug efficacy (Therapeutics) or drug toxicity (Toxicology).
