MSADE 5113 - Introduction to Information Security


This course teaches the fundamentals of information security concepts, from security properties to security principles. Application topics include identification and assessment of assets, vulnerabilities and threats, risk analysis, and the formulation and implementation of controls. Ecosytems include legacy networks and databases, cloud infrastructure and the Internet of Things (IoT). Standards and guidelines will be drawn from the National institute of Standards (NIST) frameworks and relevant legislation such as HIPAA, FERPA, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, etc. Security certifications such as SOC and FEDRAMP are also discussed.
