Master of Divinity Course Requirements (72 hours)

The Master of Divinity is the standard degree for those who want to engage in full-time ministry, chaplaincy, or faith-bsed non-profit leadership. It can also serve as a proper foundation for future academic pursuits like a D.Min or Ph.D. The goals of the program are to give students competence in the interpretation of the Bible, to ensure that students have a basic knowledge of Christian history and theology, to cultivate an active concern for local and global poverty and oppression, to integrate the knowledge of these disciplines in view of contemporary culture and congregational settings and to provide training in spiritual formation.

The M.Div. degree is a 72-hour program. Students may take classes on campus or online. Up to 48 hours may be earned at a distance, with the remaining 24 hours earned in residence. Class formats include online, weekend intensives, and weeknight formats. Twelve hours of electives can be used to create a concentration in the degree or allow student to explore other areas of interest they may have.

Foundations (6 hours)

(These courses may be waived if the student has taken undergraduate equivalents. Elective hours may be substituted for these hours.)

Electives or Concentration (15 hours)

Students may choose additional coursework from available Hazelip courses or may elect to take these hours out of department (ICM, Psychology, Business), either through existing certificate programs or pre-determined course work applicable to the practice of ministry.
