M.Div. (Cohort)

Master of Divinity Course (Cohort) Requirements (72 hours)

The Master of Divinity cohort program emphasizes the integration of spiritual formation, theological reflection, and contextualized thinking. The goals of the program are to give students competence in the interpretation of Scripture, provide a foundation in the history of the church and theological traditions, explore real contexts of ministry through the practicum requirement and integrate spiritual formation into theological reflection and ministry practices.

The cohort program involves six week-long residencies over the course of two years, complemented by online studies prior and following each learning engagement. One residency serves as a spiritual formation retreat. Another is an experiential travel course focused on contemporary social justice issues. The remaining four are hosted on the Lipscomb campus.

Students who do not possess an undergraduate degree in Bible or theology may need to spend an additional year taking “Foundations” coursework. These classes need to be completed before a student can join a cohort. Each cohort remains together throughout the two year cycle of the program.
