BY 4014 - Molecular Biology (4) SP

This advanced course integrates theoretical knowledge of molecular biology with hands-on research experience through a Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE). Students apply fundamental concepts of DNA structure, gene expression, and cellular regulation to laboratory research problems through independent experimental design and execution. The course emphasizes the development of essential research skills including nucleic acid isolation, PCR, western blotting, and data analysis. Students gain experience in critical analysis of scientific literature, experimental design, and research presentation through collaborative projects. Special attention is given to emerging topics in molecular biology including epigenetics, RNA interference, and genomics. The laboratory component focuses on a semester-long research project where students develop and implement experimental techniques to address real scientific questions, culminating in a formal oral and written presentation.
