ED 472C - Clinical Experience Lab III: Student Teaching - K-5 (12) F, SP Clinical Experience Lab III is the capstone experience required of all education majors - student teaching. Observation and direct teaching for a minimum of 15 weeks in assigned P-12 schools are completed under the supervision of mentor teachers and a university supervisor. Each student is placed in two varying classroom settings (TN Literacy Standard 5). Candidates participate in instructional seminars and complete edTPA for licensure. Candidates in this program will be required to complete edTPA. Within edTPA, candidates are required to document the diversity of strengths present in their current P-3 classrooms, which allows them to set individual goals for target students. Candidates also demonstrate their knowledge of using assessments for different purposes and interpreting according data to reflect and redesign instruction to meet student needs. Candidates’ choices of assessments, strategies, and planning must be grounded in research and theory. (TN Literacy Standards 1, 2, 3, 4). A culminating, summative portfolio is also created this semester to document individual candidate growth from the start to finish of the teacher preparation program. This includes documenting professional learning opportunities, a commitment to culturally-relevant instruction, and knowledge of engaging students in learning communities. (TN Literacy Standard 5; ISTE CS 4).
Prerequisite: ED 3649 , application approval, interview, admission to the program, and passing scores on Praxis II Content Tests for one’s discipline. Corequisite: ED 4403 . $500 fee.
