ED 3223 - Teaching Social Studies (3) F


This course prepares future educators to design and implement effective social studies instruction for K-12 students. Emphasizing the Tennessee Academic Standards, participants will learn to plan developmentally-appropriate lessons, integrate literacy, and use technology to engage diverse learners. Students will develop strategies for teaching social studies through inquiry-based learning, disciplinary literacy, and critical discourse, while creating assessments that inform instruction. The course encourages reflective practice, helping candidates improve their teaching through ongoing evaluation and research-based strategies. By the end of the course, students will have the tools to advocate for their learners and effectively teach social studies in inclusive and engaging ways.

Prerequisite: Admission to the program.
