EN 3063 - African American Literature (3) F This course focuses on works by African American authors from the 18th-Century to the present. We will study a range of genres, including fiction, poetry, drama, autobiography, and nonfiction. We will examine how African American writers create and reappropriate certain styles, techniques, genres, and structures, as well as how this tradition focuses on the concepts of identity, freedom, mobility, and security. We will make connections to how the writing and culture of African Americans reflects on and shapes American history.
Prerequisites: EN 1223 or LU 1013.
