ED 3283 - Methods for Science Educators (3) This course focuses on designing effective learning experiences that integrate disciplinary core ideas, crosscutting concepts, and science and engineering practices in PreK-5 science classrooms. Candidates will learn to design developmentally-appropriate science lessons that align with Tennessee Academic Standards, while incorporating strategies to engage students in disciplinary literacy. Emphasis will be placed on creating inclusive learning experiences that are accessible to all students, utilizing technology to enhance instruction, and fostering an environment of critical discourse and scientific thinking. Through hands-on activities, lesson planning, and reflective practice, students will develop the skills necessary to effectively teach science content, assess student understanding, and create an engaging classroom environment. Topics will include designing lessons that connect scientific concepts to real-world experiences, using disciplinary literacy to support science learning, and ensuring safety in the science classroom. In addition to pedagogical content, candidates will also strengthen their content knowledge in the areas of life, physical, earth and space science through hands-on activities and interactive teaching methods.
