ED 4263 - Communication, Language and Behavior (3) This course is designed to explore a variety of disorders and deficits that can impact a student socially, emotionally, communicatively, and behaviorally. Candidates will begin by learning about the connections between communication, social skills, and their impact on behavior in the classroom. Then, candidates will learn how to observe, assess, intervene, and monitor in an effort to proactively address these deficits. While this course is primarily designed to explore interventions and supports from a special educator lens, certain general education policies, processes, and initiatives, will be discussed. Candidates will leave this course with a conceptual understanding of disabilities and deficits that impact a student’s ability to navigate social constructs, as well as how to manage these deficits and reduce / replace interfering behaviors. This will further impact their ability to manage and maintain safe and supportive learning environments for all learners.
