ED 4703 - Clinical Experience Lab I: Learning Environments & Theories (3) In Clinical Experience Lab I, teacher candidates examine how to create a positive classroom learning environment through research-based classroom management strategies and learning theories. Additionally, candidates analyze how to create a supportive classroom environment for all learners by addressing learners’ individual needs through culturally- and linguistically-appropriate implementation of differentiation strategies, as well as behavioral and academic interventions (DEC EI ECSE Standards 1 and 6). This course also equips candidates to work professionally in co-teaching and collaboration situations with other educators, as well as parents and families (ISTE CS 3).
In this course, candidates spend approximately 35 hours in field experience placement in a classroom setting. During this placement, candidates must create and implement 5 different lesson plans that illustrate their ability to implement appropriate learning theories, differentiation and management strategies (TN EPP Literacy Standards 1 and 3). As part of the placement, candidates must complete a case study of a student in the classroom who is experiencing either an academic or behavioral barrier to success. In this case study, candidates collect data on the student, identify areas of strengths and challenges of the student, and establish goals and strategies to address the challenges. In another major assignment in the course, candidates must create a classroom management plan that details their philosophy of classroom management, strategies that they will use to create a positive classroom environment for all learners, and plans to include families in their child’s learning experiences (ISTE CS 2).
