ED 3393 - Assessment and Evaluation of Multilingual Learners (3) This course will explore effective strategies for teaching and assessing multilingual learners in K-12 classrooms. Participants will gain an understanding of the unique linguistic and cultural needs of students who speak multiple languages. Essential topics include grammar structural systems, the International Phonetic Alphabet, and foundational language and reading skills. Students will engage with various pedagogical approaches, such as translanguaging and multiple literacies pedagogies, to promote effective language acquisition in mainstream, sheltered, and bilingual settings. The course will also address key assessment concepts, including learner identity, standards, dynamic assessments, and the implications of biases in assessment practices. Ultimately, this course equips educators to create inclusive learning environments that recognize and support the unique contributions of multilingual learners, ensuring their academic success.
